Unfortunate Tale of an Unfortunate Life

The man was 17, I believe the girl was 17 too, or maybe a bit younger. He was alone, always the first of class, a comic and novel reader. She was alone too, excellent in class too, and an avid reader also. Some people could say they were the same --why would they actually be best friends were they different?--. After all, where's the difference between both's looks? That's a big problem people tend to have. People don't realize there always is so much more than meets the eye. She lived for her family, he wanted to see a family live. She read forgotten books of tears and sadness, he read to forget his tears flowing on his saddened face. She worked so hard at school because she hardly did anything else, he was a school freak because he hardly had anything else.
Futile differences. Only words separated them. And it was ooh so true.

-What about you? asked a barely known friend of ours. Are you gonna go together to the dance?
-Probably not, she answered.
Those words he repeated in my head for so long he forgot their meaning. Probably means maybe. Not is the opposite of yes. Probably yes means nothing, so what is it's opposite? What was she trying to say he'll never know. It was so hard to read her mind sometimes.

Weeks passed by and she still always answered the same two words. If a word such as "love" can bring so many rivers to one's eyes, imagine what floods 2 words can create. At least the boy had a friend to talk to.
A cold hardly-grown-up-kid was there for him. And the broken-hearted little man would tell his friend how he felt like he had no chance of going to the dance with his best friend. Talking made him feel like he was not alone, and ooh would he have prefered to be alone.

Months passed by and the wintery kid swore he'd do anything he could do to help the man find his confidence so he could ask her friend out. I guess promises are meant to be broken, or so it seems.
Anyway, one day the now-better-known-friend-of-mine asked the question again to the girl who still answered the same words. However she seemed to be more open, as she looked at him in a sad way while she said it. Looking back now, he'd realize it might have been more of a remorsefull look instead of the message he had understood.

The same day, at lunch time, he finally asked her out. And he then learned the truth. Her best friend was going to the dance with an immature little brat. Not only was the boy stupidly young of mind, he also was the ex-friend of the now weeping man. He had been lied to for so long, and she had hidden the truth for weeks too. And it was too late for anyone to save his heart. Once something breaks, it never gets completely fixed. And not only had his heart broke, his soul was excrutiated and his mind poisoned by pain.

What is so peculiar about this story is that the little boy still lives while the grown up man stole his own life the same night. I guess he had grown too fast. And the girl, sick and pale with remorse took her life the next day, deciding not to breathe for hours as she didn't stand to inhale an air that was no more parfumed by the man's skin. Sometimes you realize you're in love when it's too late. And how could you be mad at the boy... when you're ooh so young, you do not realize what you're doing, and ooh so young he was. After all, even him didn't get to dance with the girl.

It might have taken me hundreds of years to grow up, and I may still not be as mature as any of the two were, but I realize now how I made a mistake inviting her to the dance before her true friend. I killed two potential lovers, and thus killed their children and a whole lineage of mature people. I'd better die soon if I do not want to steal anymore life.

Wow, great piece of work.
Very impressive indeed.
It may also have uncovered some shadowed decisions to some that may have not understand all the while.
